Extreme activity in critical days – as a way to save the world

If you do not understand activists, any aktsionistka and other "anxious with world peace" – it is possible, the act of this girl will be not really close to you. Frankly speaking, the stupor was my first reaction. I sat several minutes at a computer and could not understand in any way: it it such courageous or such mad?

But now I only admire! It is interesting how you consider.

Marathon and activism

It is fashionable to run marathons now. The famous people, models, actresses, athletes participate in them. All remember Natasha Vodianova on the London marathon or Caroline Wozniacki – on New York. But it is not just a way to strengthen themselves and to prove something to someone. A marathon for many – a way to draw attention to some public organization or an action, to raise money for a good cause, to help people, but not just promotion of a healthy lifestyle (though it is quite good too).

Kieran Gandhi, the 26-year-old participant of the London marathon of 2015, decided to devote the run to the great purposes too. Her idea – to help girls and women who have no opportunity to use hygienic tampons and laying in critical days. Also she made it in very original and courageous way.

How could the girl with such surname remain the ordinary graduate of Harvard and the obedient daughter of the parents? 26-year-old Kieran, of course, devotes himself not only to hobby by music, but also conducts very active social life. Her next care – to remind of what is so far in the world of the woman to which means of female hygiene (laying and tampons) are inaccessible.

And Kieran it was simply happy that its critical days coincided with date of the London marathon this year (it was in April of the 2015th). In general, it was accepted as the participant Marafon for other reason: it and two of her girlfriends ran to collect 3800 pounds sterling ($6000) for fight against breast cancer. But such coincidence guided the girl at one more action.


Kieran Gandhi came to a distance without special means of hygiene (during periods), and blood, naturally, leaked on clothes. And Kieran intentionally did not hide it in any way, quietly posing for photographers and cameramen.

The objectives are achieved

Naturally, such behavior demanded explanation. Kieran gave the sea of an interview, itself wrote several articles in luster and to networks that to explain all. Of course, she met misunderstanding. There were offensive statements, photoshopped images … But Gandhi did not pay attention. She constantly explains the action to all who did not understand it so far. Also does it still. Several months disputes in network do not cease. But it means – the objectives are achieved. People really thought of a problem of availability of hygienic means for one and all.

Kieran it was not limited only to this problem. It considers that society is cruel to women who have critical days. They are forced to smile and behave as usual, at that time when they can feel unpleasant feelings.

There is also one more not really popular aspect. About Kieran is mute told in an interview to the American Cosmopolitan. This embarrassment and inconveniences which women when about their critical days men learn meet. All met offensive stereotypes about "a dirty body" and male fastidiousness. Kieran told that on the finish of the Marathon it was waited by the father and the brother. And it, of course, did not want to put them in an awkward situation. But close people supported the girl. "Eventually, we are one family, and it and their blood too!" - nearly crying shared courageous Kieran. The father met her on the finish by embraces, and it was one more small victory.

I, of course, understand that all this will look as moralising. But if competitive works are read by sponsors from the Always company - that is a real opportunity to address them.

Means of hygiene – basic need of the woman. Of course, the poor countries cope also without them. But it not business. It humiliates the woman. And I would agree to pay for the laying a little more if at least the ruble from it went on these means for women who have no opportunity to buy them to themselves. Dear Always! Make such action! It will allow to participate in the help to those who independently seldom show an initiative (due to various reasons), but does not want to stand aside.

And more active can and begin to help without Always. For certain female residents of the remote areas, girls from Boarding schools and just neighbour's girl from not really successful family need good laying.
