Rutube - the Russian analog of YouTube gains steam...
"Rutube (Rutyyu? b) — Russian video hosting and aggregator of license video content. Belongs to Gazprom media holding and private shareholders, is operated by the Ruform company [1]. Since the end of 2019 of Rutube worked under the LIST platform — videos are inaccessible to viewing to not authorized users; viewing of content requires registration. In December, 2020 the Gazprom media holding got a video hosting, its head and the former head of Roskomnadzor Alexander Zharov announced work on modernization of Rutube with the purpose to make the platform "same convenient", as well as the American YouTube platform. It happened soon after charges of YouTube from Roskomnadzor in censorship and the appeal of department to the leading Russian Internet companies to an appeal to help with creation of domestic video hostings for internal use and also approval of the law on the right of Roskomnadzor to block foreign Internet resources, including YouTube, Facebook and Twitter if they allow "censorship" concerning materials Russian SMI[53].
In April, 2021 the video hosting of Rutube received updating, having become a domestic clone of YouTube. The design was considerably changed, the player is processed and also new useful functions appeared. Also there was an opportunity to watch video without registration, to load rollers through the built-in studio, to create thematic playlists, to monetize content [54]. In the nearest future there will be a function of live broadcastings, and in the third quarter — sale of goods is live also loading of podcasts. As of 2021 service had no counter of viewings."
