"Bridge to Terabithia" (2007). Interesting view of the childhood

Walt Disney Pictures is the screen version of the story of the same name of Catherine Paterson written in 1977. On the account of the writer several awards, including Andersen's award in 1998 and an award A. Lindgren in 2006.
Mother writer-having many children, and her four children gave it a lot of material for creative work. The story is based on real events from life of one of her sons, David.
Later, already adult, David Paterson acted as the screenwriter and the producer of the movie "Bridge to Terabithia". Unfortunately, its basis was formed by tragic events: Lisa, the best friend of her son, died from blow by a lightning during walk.
Therefore it is impossible to watch the movie without tears. The book was criticized, by the way, by censorship including because of death of the heroine.
The movie is sad, but light and very sincere. The main character — ten-year-old Jess — is very lonely in spite of the fact that except him in family four more children (two elder and two younger sisters). Only the six-year-old little sister Mae Bel tries to be on friendly terms with the brother. To parents too not to it: the constant shortage of money is a lot of efforts, and.

At school David too the derelict, and his only chance of success — to win competitions on run. It is overtaken by the newcomer - Lesley. It turns out that they live in the neighbourhood. And between them friendship is started. David shows to the girl the drawings, and Lesley tells the invented stories. They find the thrown lodge on a tree, behind the river, and it becomes their world — Terabitiya.

In the movie there are fantasy elements.


Divergences with the story insignificant, though are. The screen version was more interesting to me, including because of the actress (Anna-Sofia Robb played Lesley). Lesley changed David's life.

The movie is interesting how imaginations of children are shown, and for the sake of it it was worth watching it.
