Pyatigorsk. Perkalsky reserve

Continuing a subject of sights of Pyatigorsk, there is a wish to mention very beautiful place, at the foot of Mashuk which does not appear in popular excursion routes.
The Perkalsky reserve is on a northern slope of Mashuk.


The place is chosen not accidentally. Even during summer heat the cool reigns here, at the same time the area is protected from cold drafts. In the territory ice streams of springs and small streamlets often meet mineral water which can be drunk.


The word "reserve", of course, is not absolutely applicable to scales of this territory as it is not really big. Residents of Pyatigorsk more often call it Dendrology nursery.

The Pyatigorsk Dendrology nursery officially is the Ekologo-botanichesky station of Botanical institute of RAS. Here the unique collection of plants from different corners of the world is collected: North Caucasus, Transcaucasia, Asia, America, etc.

The nursery received the name thanks to hard work in forestry of the person by the name of Perkalsky. After the revolt of 1830 in Poland the officer., was sent to the Caucasus. During this period forestry was in Management of Waters. The management conducted set of soldiers (people educated and responsible) for work in the forest territory. Perkalsky is appointed to a position of an objezchik of Beshtaugorsky forest area. Works on improvement of the territory, maintenance strictly about, suppression of all illegal violations, work with papers belong to its duties. It should be noted that Perkalsky performed this complex work about the most advanced years responsibly and adequately. Exactly thanks to him, the most part of flora of Mashuk is kept today. Life of the former officer was quite modest. He lived here, in the forest, in a witness mark. A witness mark was once very popular place of a halt. The elite tired of walks across Mashuk, often did a stop here to have a rest, drink mineral water, to have a bite and learn from Perkalsky about his leskhozny affairs.

Officially the nursery began the existence in 1878. At this time the resorts of Caucasus Mineralnye Vody region begin to arrange well actively. At the foot of Mashuk, in rather small territory, grow up the most various decorative and landing material for registration of resorts. It not only ornamental plants, but also very beautiful, exotic

Today in nursery it is possible to see personally not only rare species of the Caucasian vegetation, but also flora from the exotic countries, the plants growing on the planet long before appearance of the person and the copies included in the Red List of Stavropol Territory, Russia, the whole world. Some plant species grow here, others raise only to order.

The Metasekvoya – was widespread on the earth more than 60 million years ago. Now is on the verge of disappearance, it is included in the International Red List. The Metasekvoya has an interesting story. Long time it was considered died out as it was found in a fossil state.


Only in 1943 accidentally found the saplings which by miracle survived in the mountains of China. When in 2012 scientists compared DNA of the remains of ancient trees of a metasequoia (55 million years) and modern, it turned out that it almost did not exchange. This opening struck all domestic and foreign scientific world because forced to revise the settled theory of "molecular hours".

Special pride of a tree nursery are coniferous representatives of flora, in particular, fluffy blue spruces. Gardeners perfectly know as it is difficult to grow up such beauty without special knowledge.

In nursery a huge variety of pine and fir trees which homeland are not only open spaces of Russia, but also many other countries of the world.


A few years ago, before New Year's holidays almost each resident of Pyatigorsk in search of a nice fir-tree or a pine aspired here. Cheap sold trees which did not conform to standards therefore were not suitable for export, but houses with resinous aroma all holidays so pleased us.

In nursery it is possible to buy flower seedling for sobstvennono garden. Here grow up several species of roses: pletisty roses, roses Spray, Floribunda, park and such "whimsical" tea and hybrid roses.


From deciduous plants in a tree nursery grow up the following: maple acutifoliate (spherical), maple sugary; mountain ash ordinary, black-fruited, mountain ash intermediate, bladed and plakuchy, Sophora Japanese, bird cherry ordinary and late, linden, ash-tree white mulberry and many others.

If to you has the luck to visit here the beginning of summer, you will be able to admire the blossoming magnolias. Them here several types. In spite of the fact that climate in the neighborhood of Mashuk not subtropical, these southern beauties feel here just perfectly.


One of the most widespread types of magnolia family is the Tulip tree (the homeland Sowing. America). Its blossoming always admires with brightness of paints, besides, this is the most ancient representative of flowering plants on the planet.


Climate here, really, unique. And foreigners by whose orders they in nursery specially grow up now rare species of plants and flowers which do not grow any more anywhere on the planet quickly enough understood it. Generally it is the French who are ready to pay the fabulous sums for unique environmentally friendly raw materials for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry.


In the territory of dendrology nursery there is very beautiful place called also in honor of the officer Perkalsky. The Perkalsky rock is the beautifull place, with an amazing view of the Caucasian ridge, mountains.


They say that here to these plants, herbs which grew during the postglacial period safely grow. Some researchers of life and M.Yu. Lermontov's creativity consider that exactly here and there was a tragic duel.
