Antioxidants, in fact, antioxidants are the natural or synthetic substances capable to slow down oxidation process. Oxygen, probably, the most important and widespread chemical element on our planet, its participation in chemical reactions provides with energy all biological processes in an organism, but... It appears, one of consequences of these reactions is appearance of "free radicals" - unstable molecules which lack an electron. They were declared, in recent times, main "villains" and destroyers of an organism.
In the world there is a set of the assumptions and theories as the aging mechanism and why people are ill works. One of the most popular in recent years – the theory of the American chemist Harman. He conferred the main responsibility for aging of an organism on free radicals. Grains of doubt in the miracle force of antioxidants seeded researches of biologists from the London university college (University College London). These researches on roundworms were conducted, and a conclusion became their result – antioxidants do not influence aging process in any way. What was made by scientists? If you think that they applied cosmetic medicines on poor worms or fed them with dietary supplements, then you are deeply mistaken. They genetically modified hearts nematodes (very convenient experimental object of biologists, because of the short term of life) in such a way that free radicals in the bodies began to suppress that. And, alas, this process did not affect life expectancy of hearts nematodes in any way, and their appearance it seems also.
Whether it is possible by results of such experiences (and similar) to draw an unambiguous conclusion about uselessness of antioxidants in aging prevention? I do not know, but very much I doubt, in any case, the question is not closed and scientific work in this direction is continued.
Even if antioxidants also do not influence directly preservation of youth, the healthy, balanced food (and we remember that antioxidants are included into many food), has huge value for reduction of risk of many diseases, and for the blossoming appearance.
So, we will not go into extremes.
Laudable ode to antioxidants
The fact that vegetable food, grass infusions, vegetables, fruit (and juice from them) well affect an organism knows mankind long since, and without any scientific research, on the basis of the practical experience. The most widespread antioxidants in cosmetics are: vitamins E, C, A, F, carotinoids, bioflavonoids, Q 10 coenzyme, lipoic acid, selenium.

Besides, antioxidants protect actually cosmetic from oxidation on air. So introduction to composition of cream of antioxidants allows to reduce a little in it amount of preservatives that too is quite good.
Whether save antioxidants from an old age or do not save, this is still authentically unknown to science! But we will not be upset ahead of time who knows what else experiences will be thought up by these inquisitive scientists. Very often results of some experiments directly contradict results of others. So if your favourite cream or a mask does your skin younger, softer, more gentle, then what in principle the difference, at the expense of antioxidants it occurs or at the expense of other mechanisms.
