From where did the saying "Go to live in grand style"?

This popular expression usually means quite comfortable existence. Speaking "lives in grand style" we mean that someone lives not bad, with enviable scope, without feeling sorry for funds for satisfaction of the requirements. But how this expression appeared? Let's track its history.
According to linguists this saying came to us from England of times of government of Henry II Plantagenet, the son of count Angevin Gottfried of Plantagenet.

It is for certain known that the king Henry II long time suffered from an outgrowth on a thumb of the right leg that brought it considerable sufferings. What only treatment methods he did not try, from this problem nothing helped. Then he decided to alleviate to himself painful feelings and suffering when walking, having ordered to sew him boots with long, pointed, inflexed toes. It is improbable that the king wanted to become the real fashion-maker, however he him became.

Did not pass also several weeks as all English nobility queued to shoemakers for the same "big-nosed" footwear. Everyone tried to look as the king, ordering shoes is longer and longer, at the same time grandees filled socks of the shoes hay that they did not fall down from legs. To stop this disgrace, the king shortly issued the decree which is strictly limiting length of a possible shoe sock: ordinary citizens could wear boots with a sock not more long than 15 cm, barons and knights - 30 cm, and columns - to 60 cm.

It became since then easy to distinguish the highest nobility from the middle class, they in literal sense were able to afford "to live in grand style". So footwear with incredibly long socks became a peculiar indicator of wealth of its owner. Therefore late expression "to live in grand style", began to indicate a possibility of the person to live in luxury directly.
